OceansWatch’s First Project to Vanuatu a Success
The Magic Roundabout, OceansWatch’s project lead boat for Vanuatu left New Zealand in late May and had a fast trip up to Port Vila on Efate Island. 2nd Reef Check Training in Tonga
The cruising season in the South Pacific is coming to a close and some cruisers have already made their way to New Zealand, where they’ll stay over the hurricane season. Among the OceansWatch members heading back for the 2nd time are Beth and Ken Cone on Eagle Wings and David and Gail Funk on Fifth Season. Nandor Tanczos, New Zealand Green MP, visits OceansWatch Yacht
Nandor Tanczos, Green MP, paid a visit to the OceansWatch yacht, Magic Roundabout, in Whangarei Town Basin, New Zealand on Friday 9th May and met with the crew. As Nandor’s parliamentary portfolio includes the Environment he was interested to find out about OceansWatch’s marine conservation projects.
Magic Roundabout, who has been gifted to OceansWatch for use as a marine research vessel, will be conducting surveys of coral reef health in Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea this year, as well as helping locals to establish Marine Protected Areas. Read more....

Fantastic Opportunity to join OceansWatch Yacht!
OceansWatch, the newly formed Trust connecting sailors and divers with marine conservation and humanitarian projects, needs crew for two yachts this coming season in the Pacific. OceansWatch is Gifted the use of a Yacht
Alice Sowerby, sister of the late Tom Sowerby, has gifted the use of his Sweden Yacht 340, Magic Roundabout, to OceansWatch. Tom, who was only 23 when he died, loved the sea and the cruising life and was a skilled yachtsman and diver. His death in a free diving accident in Bora Bora last year was a shock to all who knew him.
Tom was en route to New Zealand where he planned to study and work for a year before continuing his circumnavigation. Read more....
OceansWatch Heads for Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and the Philippines - Sept 2007
Chris Bone, founder of OceansWatch, leaves New Zealand this month to lay the groundwork for the first OceansWatch projects. He will combine the delivery of a 45ft yacht to Hong Kong through www.pacificyachtdeliveries.co.nz with exploration work for OceansWatch, spending five days in each Vanuatu, PNG and the Philippines courtesy of the yacht owner.
