Fundraising (longwinded)

Hi Folks,

I work as a environmental scientist and project manager in Auckland, and I having a meeting tomorrow with a comittee at my job that focuses on environmental issues. I note that though there are a few projects that are in the works, some more information about the specific needs of those projects could help in raising outside funds (from non sailors). I ahve tabled the idea already for getting glasses donated and think that will be set up almost immediately.

If Oceanswatch can come up with some specific fundraising ideas, or projects that have a simple but easily understandable objective, I will likely be able to get some further support.

I am willing to help put those fundraising projects together but I will need a more specific project plan before I can go to the company. A look at the Oxfam website is a good way to see what I am talking about. (buy a goat, clean drinking water, etc.)

Also, as with all fundraising there needs to be some transparency as to the amounts generated, the percentage of funds that is used to run the NGO, and the amounts used on specific activities. It seems pretty grass roots at the moment, but this will become important when money starts flowing in. I would suggest a simple spreadsheet be made available for this purpose, to go along with other informational materials. as it shows the legitimacy of the organization.

My first suggestion which I think will bring a good return is a dive trip to the poor knights islands. We seem to have some divemasters and divers here, and if we can secure a boat at a discounted rate from Oceanswatch friendly dive shop, and have a BBQ and beers afterward.

Second suggestion is selling the entertainment books. These are very goof for fundraising and are pretty much a no brainer. No up-front costs are required and yiou make about 13 dollars for every book. Books are coming out very soon, so have to get on this fast.

OK thats it

Sorry so longwinded
